Internet Subscriber Forecast for Asia-Pacific
Region
A new Yankee Group Report titled "Asia-Pacific Internet
Subscriber Update," lays out the researchers' estimates
of Internet subscribers (defined differently from users)
in most of the countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific
territory from the year 2000 to 2005. The Report further
delves into the drivers and inhibitors of the Internet in
China and India, two countries with the greatest potential
for Internet usage based upon the enormous population base.
According to the Yankee Group, besides the huge population
base in the region, the primary drivers for Internet usage
in region are deregulation and cheaper bandwidth charges.
The increased awareness and enhanced usage of the Internet
in this area are additional elements responsible for massive
bandwidth demand. According to Aditya Puri, an analyst with
the Yankee Group's Internet Strategies Asia-Pacific research
and consulting practice, "By 2003 the transpacific bandwidth
demand for data, voice, and the Internet will be approximately
two and a half times the transatlantic demand."
