Report Urges Light Internet Regulation
According to CNN:
"Governments around the world must allow
the evolution of the Internet to remain largely unfettered
by regulations if its full potential is to be realized, according
to a report released Friday by an Internet analysis group.
The U.S. Internet Council's "State of
the Internet 2000" report addresses numerous global
issues facing the future of the Web, such as the need to
close the digital divide, encouraging online education, protecting
personal privacy, limiting government intervention and the
revolution in wireless communication..."

It's Beginning to "Ad" Up
According to the Digital Mass:
"The phrase "don't touch that dial" sounds
so quaint these days. Even assuming you used a TV dial instead
of a remote, it's not like you can escape commercials by
turning off the tube. And the tech industry is one of the
most intrusive of all. Remember when nine out of ten people
didn't know what a URL was? Now you can barely open a magazine,
turn on the TV, or step outside without seeing a www. of
some sort.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate all ads. AdCritic
is one of my favorite sites and I know that commercialization
is sometimes a necessary evil. 'Most of us in the Internet
universe want it both ways,' wrote Steve Zeitchik in an Industry
Standard column. 'We want a vibrant economy, but we don't
want some of the consequences, like the overflow of business
into our daily lives.'..."
