FTC Demands Dot-Com Christmas Delivery
According to Forbes:
"Project TooLate.com sounds like a site
launch that's behind schedule. In fact, it was the Federal
Trade Commission's cheeky but official name for its investigation
into last Christmas' e-debacle, which had gifts that were
ordered online landing on doorsteps as late as February.
Online retailers with late deliveries weren't
just screwing up and angering customers. They were actually
breaking the law. As a result, in July the FTC charged seven
retailers, including Toysrus.com, Macys.com, CDnow.com and KBkids.com,
with violating its Mail and Telephone Order Rule. This law
prohibits merchants from promising unrealistic delivery dates
and requires them to adequately notify consumers about shipping
delays. The seven Web sites settled the charges and paid
$1.5 million in penalties..."
