Top Free CGI Banner Scripts
As a Webmaster, banner management for the advertising you get is very important. Below you will find what Webmaster Techniques Magazine has identified as the top three free banner management CGI scripts:

1) SFE Banner Rotation Version 1.2
SFE Banner Rotation is an excellent free banner management script that is easy to use (nice admin interface) and includes quite a few features, including the ability to have new browser windows open when someone clicks on an ad. The site claims that version 2.0 is in the works (since August of 1999). It will be interesting to see how they build upon a currently solid program. Note: When going to the site, you'll need to scroll down to see the script. Unfortunately the site doesn't provide a page simply dedicated to SFE Banner Rotation.

2) Banner Ad Rotation Program Version 1.1
The Banner Ad Rotation Program is a well-written script that has many features. For example, you can have a banner ad showing at the top and bottom of your page without the same ad showing up in both spots. Furthermore, you can identify competition ads so that they don't show up at the same time (i.e. A top ad for "IBM" won't show up with a bottom ad of "Compaq"). The program also logs click-thrus.

3) AdCycle Version 0.61b
It's only in beta and still has a few bugs to work out, but AdCycle is already shaping up to be a very nice banner ad management CGI script. With an excellent interface and good campaign management abilities, a later version of this script could possibly work its way up to #1 on this list. AdCycle does require MySQL to properly work.
